Our story

Built by Kiwis,
for Kiwis

FeijoaFinder started with a simple idea — what if you could find a feijoa tree near you, wherever you are in Australia?

Feijoa trees

A little homesick,
a lot passionate

FeijoaFinder was born out of a very Kiwi problem — moving to Australia and realising you can't just walk outside and grab a bag of feijoas anymore. For many of us, feijoa season isn't just about the fruit. It's about home, family, and the smell of autumn in New Zealand.

We're a small group of Kiwis living across Australia who built this entirely in our spare time. No company. No funding. No office. Just a shared love of feijoas and a genuine belief that community tools should be free and open to everyone.

What started as a weekend side project has grown into something we're really proud of — a community where people share trees, reduce food waste, and feel a little more connected to home, no matter where they are in Australia.

Picking feijoas

Community first

Everything we build is for the community. No ads, no paywalls, no data selling.

Open access

The map is free to use, forever. Everyone deserves to find a feijoa tree.

Kiwi spirit

Sharing, generosity, and looking out for your neighbour. That's what this is all about.

Powered entirely
by volunteer time

FeijoaFinder has no paid staff, no venture capital, and no revenue. Every feature you see — the map, the pin system, the recipes, the community ratings — was built in evenings and weekends by people who just wanted to make something useful.

We believe the best community tools are built by the community itself. If you've ever dropped a pin, picked a tree someone else shared, or simply told a friend about the app — you're already part of what makes this work.

Every hour counts

From writing code to designing the logo to moderating photos — it all happens in spare moments between jobs, kids, and life. We do it because we love it, and because you make it worthwhile.

What it costs
to keep running

Volunteer time is free — but the services that keep FeijoaFinder running aren't. Every month there are real costs to keep the map live, the data safe, and the photos loading fast.

Web hosting — keeping feijoafinder.com online 24/7
Firebase database — storing every pin, rating and community update in real time
Cloudinary — storing and serving all the photos users upload to pins
Map tiles — delivering the map imagery to every visitor
Email services — sending notifications and contact form messages

Every donation — no matter how small — goes directly towards these costs and helps keep FeijoaFinder free for everyone.
